O'Connell's
Irish pub under the Oxford Road railway arch, with cask ale, an 80-seat terrace and live Irish acoustic music Thursday to Sunday.
About this venue
O'Connell's is an Irish pub beneath the railway arch that crosses Oxford Road at 50 New Wakefield Street, opened at the end of February 2025 in the premises that were long the Thirsty Scholar, and taking in the upstairs Attic that had overlapped with the Zombie Shack. The fit-out was sourced from Ireland, including a bar front from an early twentieth-century Dublin bank and seating from a cathedral in Tralee. It keeps two changing cask handpumps, has an outdoor terrace seating 80 beneath the arch, and runs live Irish acoustic music from Thursday to Sunday evenings. It is open until midnight on weekdays and 1am at weekends.
