229 is an independent live music venue at 229 Great Portland Street, run as part of International Students House. The building opened in 1965 and the space was relaunched as a dedicated entertainment venue in April 2007 after refurbishment; its profits go back to the charity, which funds scholarships for students from less advantaged countries.
It has two rooms. Venue 1 is the main hall and Venue 2 the smaller room; they can be run independently or together as one. The programme is broad, taking touring indie and rock bands, club nights and comedy.
