Alexandraparken

Alexandraparken lies below Quality Hotel Alexandra in the centre of Molde. Its roots go back to 1883 and the town's first tourist hotel; the park took its present form in 1954 to a design by the landscape architect Njål Bele, and was restored in 2002 with slate paving and climbing roses on trellises. Perennials, seasonal planting, shrubs and roses recall the botanical range of Molde's old private gardens and underpin the town's reputation as the "town of roses". For one week each summer the park becomes one of the main arenas of Moldejazz, the Molde International Jazz Festival. It runs from 11:00 to 03:00 during the festival, with free daytime programming until 19:00 and ticketed concerts in the evening, and it also hosts Rabbajazz, the festival's four-day children's strand. Outside the festival it is an ordinary public park. Molde kommune manages the park; no permanent stage or published capacity figure exists, as festival infrastructure is brought in for each event.
