About this venue

The Alte Feuerwache on Landwehrplatz in Saarbrücken-St. Johann was built in 1897 as a gymnasium with a volunteer fire station and was used by the Turnerbund St. Johann. Since January 1982 it has been a theatre: with up to 240 seats in variable seating, it is the second-largest venue of the Saarländisches Staatstheater. The programme covers the full range of the company's work, from drama and opera to ballet and concerts, and the venue is also used for festival showcases. A lift at the rear of the building, reached through the inner courtyard, gives step-free access to the first floor, where there is an accessible toilet and the entrance to the auditorium. The first two rows are level and all seats in the first row can be used as wheelchair spaces; rows 3 to 9 are reached by steps. Parking is at the Landwehrplatz car park or the Q-Park Staatstheater. Tickets are sold through the Staatstheater box office at Schillerplatz 2.
