About this venue
INTERIM VENUE: the Altes Kino Franklin has been the Nationaltheater Mannheim's stage for drama and dance since early 2023, for the duration of the general renovation of the Goetheplatz house, which the theatre plans to reopen for the 2028/2029 season. The building was the cinema of the Benjamin-Franklin-Village, until 2011 one of the largest US Army bases in Germany, and after an 18-month conversion it hosts premieres, world premieres, repertoire performances, special events and talks. Its theatre café, foyer and cloakroom were designed by the artist collective Situation Room; the café hosts introductions and post-show talks and has a terrace. Access is step-free via ramps and stair lifts, with wheelchair places and accessible toilets. Free NTM parking is at Birkenauer Straße 724; the Platz der Freundschaft tram stop is step-free.
