Altes Theater

The Altes Theater is the house of the Junge Ulmer Bühne (JUB), the independent theatre for young audiences funded by the City of Ulm and the State of Baden-Württemberg. With a professional acting ensemble, 13 permanent staff and many freelancers, the JUB plays a varied repertoire for children and young people here, alongside theatre-education programmes for teachers, pupils and children. It also runs the "Jurte" tent on the Ulm Christmas market and uses the KUH16 space on the Unterer Kuhberg. The building is the former gymnasium of the Wagnerschule: after the Ulm municipal theatre was destroyed in the Second World War it served as the interim theatre until the new Theater Ulm opened in 1969, and has since been used by independent and school theatre groups. The JUB notes that the Altes Theater is not step-free and that parking is limited.
