About this venue
Atalante is an artist-run stage at Övre Husargatan 1, next to Skanstorget on the border of Linnéstaden and Vasastan. It was started in 1987 by the dance group Rubicon, originally as Unga Atalante, and focuses on contemporary performing arts, with modern choreography and experimental music at its centre; it also shows films and art exhibitions and holds festivals with room for talks and debate. The auditorium has 88 seats on fixed raked seating, black walls and a sprung wooden floor; the stage is 12.5 m wide, 10 m deep and 5.1 m high to the lighting bar, with black and white dance flooring, a loading door and no parking of its own for visiting companies. The programme mixes guest performances, co-productions and the theatre's own productions, with a current autumn 2026 programme listed. Guest companies hire the stage at a reduced price because the theatre is co-funded by the Swedish Arts Council, Region Västra Götaland and the City of Gothenburg; applications go to the guest-performance coordinators, and the call for autumn 2027 closes on 25 October 2026. The foyer bar sells beer and wine in the interval.
