About this venue
Band on the Wall is one of the UK's most celebrated live music venues, run by the charity Inner City Music. The building dates back to 1803 as the George and Dragon pub, taking its name from the elevated stage musicians once played on along the back wall. It became a hub of Manchester's post-punk scene in the late 1970s, hosting early gigs by Buzzcocks, The Fall and Joy Division, and has since welcomed artists from Björk to the Sun Ra Arkestra. Following a £3.5m redevelopment completed in 2022, the venue reopened with an expanded main room (capacity 500) and a second stage in the adjoining Copper Bar, alongside dedicated education spaces for its World of Music learning programme.
