BARE Studenthus

BARE Studenthus occupies a historic building in the middle of Kvadraturen in Kristiansand — the premises that previously housed Sørlandets Kunstmuseum — and works as the gathering place for students across Agder, with a range of student organisations based under the same roof. Inside there is a restaurant, a bar and several stages. The programme runs the year round: parties, stand-up, quizzes, music bingo, debates and concerts of every scale. Although the audience is mainly students, many of the events and concerts are open to the public. In June 2026 the building's long-underused back yard reopened as a public courtyard, funded by a NOK 8.3 million municipal grant in a collaboration between Kristiansand kommune and Cultiva. It adds a performance plaza for smaller concerts, a stepped amphitheatre, a rooftop terrace with outdoor dining, new granite paving, planting and lighting, with the existing robinia tree kept as the centrepiece. The yard is used for concerts, exhibitions and cultural events, and serves food and drink during the day.
