About this venue

The Britannia Panopticon is the oldest surviving music hall in the world, opened in 1857 above what is now a shop unit at 113-117 Trongate. Billy Connolly, Stan Laurel and Jack Buchanan all appeared on its stage. Rediscovered above a false ceiling in 1997, it is run by a volunteer trust and is being restored in stages while remaining in use.

The hall is open for general viewing on Fridays and Saturdays and hosts music hall shows, silent film and Laurel and Hardy nights, talks, a monthly vintage and handmade market, and festival programmes including Glasgow Doors Open Festival. It is also available for hire.
