Byens Tak

Byens Tak occupies the twelfth and top floor of the Folketeaterbygningen at Youngstorget in central Oslo. The building, designed by Christian Morgenstierne and Arne Eide and listed for protection in 2009, has had a serving place and meeting point on its top floor since it opened in 1935, and Byens Tak is the current occupant of that tradition. It works as a meeting place for architecture and urban culture, aiming to be a stage for the conversation about how the city is built and lived in. The concept is deliberately hybrid, run jointly by Rodeo Architects and Fuglen and combining four uses in one space: an architecture office by day, lectures and urban-culture events in the evenings, an open bar on Fridays from 16:00 to 02:00, and hire at weekends. A coffee and wine bar, Byens Gulv, operates alongside, and the rooftop terrace looks out over the city.
