About this venue

The Capitol was built in 1927 as a film palace for the Müller cinema family, designed by architect Paul Darius as a round hall under an egg-shaped dome 25 metres across, and opened with Murnau's Sunrise. It survived the Second World War undamaged, added music to film in the 1970s and became one of the region's best-known music clubs in the 1980s. Today Capitol Betriebs-GmbH runs it as a 'live music house' with around 400 events and more than 130,000 visitors a year: concerts, tribute shows, comedy and cabaret, musicals, its own productions and children's theatre on Sunday mornings. The main hall seats 696 in rows, takes 182 at banquet tables, or up to about 1,100 with a standing stalls and seated balcony and circle; the stage is about 11 x 9 m. A connecting KunstGang with changing photo exhibitions leads to the Casino, home of the Rampenlicht restaurant, which has its own small stage and hosts concert, dinner-show, reading and comedy series. Both rooms are let for corporate and private events. The foyer and stalls have low-threshold access and an accessible toilet; the balcony and circle are not step-free.
