About this venue
Chat Noir is a private theatre in central Oslo, founded in 1912 by Bokken Lasson and Vilhelm Dybwad — whom she later married — as an intimate literary cabaret in the Tivoli quarter, taking its name and part of its idea from Le Chat Noir in Paris.
It moved to the Hals brothers' concert hall and piano factory in Stortingsgata in 1917, back to Tivoli in 1927, and finally to Klingenberggata in 1938 after the old building was demolished. Under Victor Bernau's leadership between 1917 and 1928 it built the reputation as a modern revue theatre that it still trades on.
The auditorium seats 581, and the house programmes revue, theatre and stage shows.
