About this venue
The Cheltenham Playhouse is a 186-seat theatre on Bath Road, run as a registered charity. It has operated as a theatre since 1945. The building dates from 1806 and has in turn housed a salts laboratory, a swimming bath (still visible under the auditorium), slipper baths, a medical spa, a steam mill and bakery, and an indoor cycling school.
The programme mixes non-professional and small-scale professional productions, concerts and dance. The annual Christmas panto and Cheltenham Fringe Festival shows are regular fixtures. The building has bars, accessible and baby-changing facilities, and rehearsal and meeting rooms.
The theatre and its other spaces are available for hire for shows, rehearsals, live streams, conferences, lectures, film premieres and community events. Every quote is tailored to the event. A basic show hire includes the venue, a basic lighting rig, a duty manager and front-of-house staff. A hire pack and a technical specification are published on the theatre's website.
