Restored 1865 music hall on Swan Street in Leeds city centre, run by Leeds Heritage Theatres, seating 467 for comedy, live music, panto and hire.
City Varieties Music Hall opened in 1865 on Swan Street, a cobbled alley between Briggate and Lands Lane, built as an adjunct to the White Swan Inn. It is Leeds' oldest working theatre and holds the Guinness World Record as the country's longest-running music hall, best known outside the city for hosting the BBC's The Good Old Days for 30 years.
Now run by Leeds Heritage Theatres alongside Leeds Grand Theatre and the Howard Assembly Room, it programmes comedy, live music, variety and pantomime, and runs behind-the-scenes tours. The Sir Ken Dodd Auditorium seats 467 across three levels, all reached by lift, and the venue is licensed for weddings and hired for conferences, briefings and launches, with the Friends' Circle Bar taking up to 60.
