CoDE - The Court
Hostel and boutique hotel in a former Sheriff Court beside St Giles' Cathedral, with a vaulted underground bar, a cafe-bar and a nightly events programme.
About this venue
CoDE - The Court occupies a former courthouse and jail on Parliament Square, immediately beside St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh's Old Town, converted in 2019 into a hostel and boutique hotel. Original holding cells are now private rooms and the courtroom itself has been fitted out as a pod sleeping studio.
The social heart of the building is a vaulted bar in the original court cellars, with DJs at weekends, joined since a 2025 refurbishment by John's Coffee House and Tavern, a cafe-bar and communal space on the ground floor. The Court runs a daily programme of free and paid experiences for guests, from walking tours and beer tastings to ceilidh introductions and paint-and-sip nights.
