About this venue
The Congresshalle at Hafenstraße 12 stands on the bank of the Saar in central Saarbrücken and is run by Congress Centrum Saar GmbH. It was funded by the federal government to mark the Saarland's accession to the Federal Republic on 1 January 1957. After a full renovation and acoustic optimisation it has been the concert venue of the Saarländisches Staatsorchester since the 1994/1995 season, and the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie also gives its concerts here. The building was closed from June 2022 for fire-safety works and reopened in September 2023.
The hexagonal Großer Saal has a public gallery and a variable stage system. Saal West, with floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, Saal Ost and the smaller SaarUfer and ParkBlick rooms are let for congresses, trade fairs, concerts, shows and private celebrations on three levels and on the forecourt. The Ristorante Roma is in the building. The ground floor has ramps inside and out and accessible toilets near Saal West; the gallery is reached only by stairs. The Parkhaus Congresshalle is directly adjacent.
