About this venue
The Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institut Heidelberg (DAI) is a cultural institution devoted to democracy and international understanding, with a focus on transatlantic dialogue between Germany and the Americas, and with science, literature and politics as its pillars. Its cultural programme of talks and readings, exhibitions, concerts and theatre, seminars and conferences draws about 50,000 visitors a year. The house also has the only public English-language library in the Rhine-Neckar region and a language school; its supporting association is the Schurman-Gesellschaft e.V.
When no programme event is on, its rooms are let: the Großer Saal suits concerts, conferences, talks and exhibitions, seating 60 to 200 as required, and the first-floor library seats up to 80 for smaller talks and readings. Event equipment partly in place includes amplification, lighting, a projector and a stage. All rooms are step-free or reached by lift, with accessible toilets on the first floor.
