Drammens Teater

Drammens Teater was built after Drammen's great city fire of 1866, designed by architect Emil Victor Langlet (who also designed the Norwegian Parliament building), and opened in 1870 as the city's cultural showpiece. After serving as a cinema for much of the 20th century, the building returned to theatre use in 1970. An arson fire destroyed it in December 1993, but an extensive reconstruction faithfully recreated the original design while adding modern facilities; the theatre reopened on 8 February 1997. In 2009, Drammens Teater merged with Union Scene under the joint name Drammen Scener. Today the venue is used for theatre, concerts and conferences, and has hosted artists such as Maria Mena, Eva Weel Skram and Odd Rene Andersen.
