English Institute of Sport

Opened in December 2003 at a cost of £24m to designs by FaulknerBrowns Architects, the English Institute of Sport Sheffield (EIS) is a multi-sport training and competition facility in the Lower Don Valley, between Sheffield Arena and the former Don Valley Stadium site. Its centrepiece indoor 200m athletics track — with facilities for high jump, pole vault, long jump and shot put, plus spectator seating — sits alongside a four-court basketball hall, three-court badminton hall, 12-court netball hall, boxing hall (reserved for GB Boxing) and extensive gyms. It hosted British Olympic athletics training ahead of London 2012, regularly stages World Snooker Championship qualifiers, European and UK indoor athletics championships, and doubles as a satellite Sheffield Hallam University sports campus.
