Festival Square
Public square on Lothian Road, opposite the Usher Hall, used each year as the site for temporary festival theatres - a Fringe big top and a Christmas spiegeltent.
About this venue
Festival Square is the open plaza on Lothian Road between the Sheraton Grand Hotel and the Usher Hall, across the road from the Traverse and the Royal Lyceum. It is a public space rather than a building, and it functions as a venue by hosting temporary structures.
During the Edinburgh Festival Fringe a cabaret-seated theatre big top is erected on the square - the structure ticketing feeds list as "Festival Square Theatre" - and Edinburgh's Christmas has run a spiegeltent there. The square is also used for markets, pop-up entertainment and public screenings.
