About this venue
The Fleischmarkthalle is a historic hall on the Alter Schlachthof site in Karlsruhe's Oststadt. After slaughtering ended there for good in 2006, it received planning approval as an exhibition, concert and theatre space and was used flexibly for many kinds of events. A renovation has now set it up as a permanent event hall for up to 400 visitors that can also be used in winter; the cast-iron columns and vaulted ceilings remain visible and shape its raw character.
Two openings link the hall to the neighbouring Wursterei, which holds toilets, storage and technical rooms and two workshop rooms with projector, screen, tables and chairs. Run as a community facility by the site developer Karlsruher Fächer GmbH and Co. Stadtentwicklungs-KG, the hall is let mainly for public arts and cultural events, with private celebrations possible to a limited extent; the workshop rooms can also be hired separately.
