About this venue

The Freilichtbühne Mannheim is an amateur theatre whose association dates back to 1913, when it was founded as the 'Dramatischer Club' in Mannheim-Waldhof; it first played outdoors in 1950, when the Freilichtbühne Mannheim e.V. was born. Around 400 members do all the work on and behind the stage on a voluntary basis. In summer the ensemble stages a family play and an adult play on the large open-air stage, which has about 732 seats in a park setting, and performances go ahead in most weather. In autumn and winter it plays in the Zimmertheater, the former side room of an inn, with 83 seats, used since 1956; its production 'Das Geheimnis der Irma Vep' won the Baden-Württemberg amateur theatre prize LAMATHEA in 2015. Current productions include 'Stolz und Vorurteil' (premiere 10 October 2026) and 'Momo' (premiere 9 January 2027). There is a beer garden on the site and wheelchair places by arrangement with the box office; tram 4 stops at Freilichtbühne.
