About this venue

The Friedenskirche in Gohlis is a neo-Gothic brick church, consecrated on 31 October 1873. It belongs to the Ev.-Luth. Michaelis-Friedens-Kirchgemeinde. Because it is no longer used for regular Sunday services, it has been given new uses. The Friedenskirche Leipzig-Gohlis e.V., founded in 1999, works to keep it open for younger generations, and the Jugendkirche Leipzig (youth church) has been based there since around 2016. A new peace bell was installed in 2016. The church hosts concerts, performances, readings, exhibitions and forums, as well as the annual interfaith thanksgiving festival of northern Leipzig. Recent programming includes the immersive light shows EONARIUM (to January 2025) and ENLIGHTENMENT, set to Vivaldi (December 2025 to January 2026), Bach@pax (December 2025), an Advent market, a reading by Arnd Henze (March 2026), and a series of political evening prayers continuing into autumn 2026.
