Built in 1779 in stone with a cruciform ("korsplan") layout, Gamle Fredrikstad kirke seats 495 and holds automatic heritage-listed protection status covering churches from 1650-1850. Alongside regular parish services, the church operates as Kulturkirken Gamle Fredrikstad, hosting classical and baroque concerts, winter and summer jazz series, gospel and choir concerts (with its own house choir, Gamlebyen Vokal), and family performances. The church is wheelchair accessible via its main entrance.
