About this venue
The Gaswerk site in Oberhausen is owned by Stadtwerke Augsburg (swa), which is renovating its buildings. It is being developed into an arts and creative quarter. The City of Augsburg rents studios in the Ofenhaus, the Sozialgebäude, the Östliche Werkstätten and the Musikbox, which opened in June 2022 with around 50 rehearsal rooms. Since January 2019 Staatstheater Augsburg has had an interim stage on the site, listed separately as the brechtbühne im Gaswerk.
In summer the grounds become a festival site and open-air stage for events such as the Modular Festival, kunstWERK Open Air and Sommer am Kiez. In 2026 the city also moved its summer concerts here from the closed Freilichtbühne am Roten Tor. For those concerts it offered a ready-to-play stage with technical equipment and backstage rooms for about 3,700 standing or 2,200 seated. Stadtwerke Augsburg publishes the site's event calendar.
