Gävle Teater

Gävle Teater is one of Sweden's most lavish 19th-century theatres, built in 1878 in monumental neo-Baroque style inspired by the Paris Opera, at Teaterplan 1 beside Rådhusesplanaden. It is a guest-play stage with about 70-80 events a year, from children's theatre, modern dance and circus to stand-up, ballet, comedies, classical drama and concerts, and is run by Gävle Teaterförening, part of Riksteatern. The main auditorium has about 420-431 seats (250 in the stalls, the rest on two balconies); Café Amadeus seats 80 and the stage can be turned into a black box for up to 100. IMPORTANT: the building is closed for renovation during 2025-2026, so the association is touring other venues around Gävle and the ticket office is closed; no conferences are held in 2025-2026. The autumn 2026 programme (for example Magnus Carlsson, La Traviata, Lars Vegas Trio) and the Cabaret musical in early 2027 are listed on the website; check the programme page for where each performance takes place.
