About this venue

The Gemeinschaftshaus Langwasser opened in 1968 on Heinrich-Böll-Platz as one of the first large community centres in Germany, and is one of the biggest of the city's Kulturläden run by the Amt für Kultur und Freizeit. It offers exhibitions, concerts, talks, celebrations, courses and an intercultural programme for all ages, a monthly cinema night (Langwasser Lichtspiele), dance evenings and festivals such as its summer festival, the Betonliebe street art festival and a Christmas market, with live music. The Großer Saal (404 m²) seats up to 465 and has professional sound and lighting, a 70 m² extendable stage, projection including a 28 m² cinema screen, dressing rooms, an induction loop and a terrace. The Kleiner Saal (196 m²) seats up to 210 with a mobile stage, and six meeting rooms seat 12 to 70. Across the whole site, with foyers, terrace, beer garden and gardens including the Bühne im Grünen, events of up to 2,000 people are possible; catering is in-house. The building is step-free with a lift, accessible toilets, two accessible parking bays by the hall entrance and its own car park, and the U1 stop Gemeinschaftshaus is next door.
