About this venue
Hamar domkirke stands at Stortorget in the middle of Hamar. It was designed by the German architect Heinrich Ernst Schirmer, built by the local builder Herman Frang and consecrated on 15 December 1866 — a neo-Gothic long church in white-rendered brick with the tower at the west end. It seats 500.
The organ is new: Weimbs Orgelbau of Germany delivered the present instrument in 2023, with 45 stops across three manuals and pedal, mechanical key action and electric stop control, behind a façade reused from a 1925 organ. A smaller choir organ of four and a half stops was built by Ryde & Berg in 1999.
The churches in Hamar run a broad concert programme together, from large choral works to intimate concerts, with several free concerts every month; the cathedral has hosted an organ festival week marking the new instrument.
