Kafe K

About this venue

Kafe K sits right on the Porsgrunnselva in central Porsgrunn, a short walk from Kunsthall Grenland and the old Osebro quarter. It works as a restaurant and a stage at the same time: the kitchen and bar run through the week, and the house puts on around 150 events a year — live concerts, stand-up, author talks, lectures, theatre, courses and seminars. Tribute shows and Norwegian touring acts make up much of the music programme, and the annual Sommerlatter comedy season is a fixture. Two rooms are hired out. Storesalen, the large hall, takes up to 200 seated and has a proper stage with backstage and house technical equipment; Lillesalen holds up to 40 and suits smaller gatherings. The restaurant itself can be divided and rearranged to fit an event, and the kitchen handles everything from menu to table setting for christenings, confirmations, weddings, anniversaries and company functions. Outside there is a large terrace on the dock with a retractable roof and heaters, in use most of the year. Kafe K is one of the main rooms of the Porsgrunn Internasjonale Teaterfestival, serving as festival café, concert arena and performance venue, and Sceneweb has logged touring theatre productions here since 1999. It is run by Kafe K Porsgrunn AS.
