About this venue

KOHI Kulturraum is a small, volunteer-run culture space at Werderstraße 47 on the Werderplatz in the Südstadt, run by KOHI Kulturraum e.V., which was founded in early 2007. The name, Japanese for coffee, comes from the espresso and vegetarian sushi shop that previously occupied the ground-floor premises. When the building was put up for sale in 2015, members formed a cooperative and bought the space, so the KOHI now owns its own rooms. The programme brings concerts and readings into the neighbourhood: indie, post-punk, NDW, electro-punk and rap acts, a monthly poetry slam (twice a year also held at the Tollhaus), song slams, open stages and exhibitions. Local press once called it the "Club-Perle Kohi".
