Kongress am Park

Kongress am Park, called Kongresshalle Augsburg until 2012, opened on 17 June 1972 on the north-east edge of the Wittelsbacher Park in the Antonsviertel. Max Speidel designed it in exposed concrete to replace the Ludwigsbau, and it is now a listed monument and a key building of Augsburg's post-war modernism. It is used for congresses, sales exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. Since 2009 Kongresshalle Augsburg Betriebs GmbH has run it, with Regio Augsburg Tourismus GmbH marketing it. After a general refurbishment from 2010 it reopened on 3 May 2012. The Kongresssaal (825 square metres, 200 square metre stage, up to 1,430 seats depending on layout) is the home venue of the Augsburg Philharmonic and has a 1972 Steinmeyer concert organ with 64 stops, restored in 2021. Other rooms include Saal baramundi (up to 330), the Klassik Radio Foyer (up to 800), the Klassik Radio Lounge (up to 190) and a set of smaller conference rooms. During the Großes Haus refurbishment, Staatstheater Augsburg also lists Kongress am Park among its interim venues. Tram line 1 stops at Kongress am Park. The adjoining Kongresshalle car park is closed until further notice.
