About this venue

The Konzerthaus Stadthalle Heidelberg was built in 1901–1903 to plans by the Heidelberg architects Jakob Henkenhaf and Friedrich Ebert as an assembly and festival building for the city, and was inaugurated on 5 August 1903. It closed in August 2019 and was renovated from January 2021, funded in full by Wolfgang Marguerre, his family and his company Octapharma (over 57 million euros), reopening on 1 February 2026 with a concert by the Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg. The main hall, the Wolfgang Marguerre Saal (formerly the Großer Saal), seats up to 987: 636 in the stalls and 351 in the gallery. Lifting floors convert the flat stalls, used for balls and galas, into raked concert seating in 10 to 12 minutes. The hall houses the historic Voit organ of 1903 with 3,766 pipes. The house has eight hireable rooms in all, including the Meriansaal, the Kammermusiksaal and the Ballsaal, and reopened its historic windows onto the river and the Altstadt. The programme covers the Philharmonic concerts of Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, the Heidelberger Frühling festival, touring concerts, shows and talks, and the house is let for conferences, galas and private events. It is operated by Heidelberger Kultur- und Kongressgesellschaft mbH.
