About this venue
The Künstlerhaus at Königstraße 93 opened in 1910 and has had an eventful history, including its years as the KOMM; since 2008 it has been a central part of the city's KunstKulturQuartier. A general refurbishment finished in 2023, and the restored Festsaal, the heart of the house, reopened in July 2024. Across about 7,000 m² it holds exhibition spaces, cinemas, workshops, cafés including the Zentralcafé, and concert and event rooms.
Resident associations programme much of what happens here: the Musikverein, an independent events collective active in the house since 1976, Café Kaya, which has run concerts, parties, readings and slams since the 1970s, the annual Blues will eat festival since 1992, and the KommKino. The Tafelhalle also uses the Festsaal as an experimental stage for dance and theatre, and cabaret evenings are staged there.
The Festsaal (261 m²) seats 204 to 280 depending on the stage, plus two wheelchair places, and with the Vorsaal and Kleiner Saal holds up to 600 standing without a stage or 450 with a 6 x 12 m stage. Other rooms for hire include the Vorsaal, the Kleiner Saal, two glass-walled decks overlooking the old town, a salon and a seminar room. Hire of the halls includes the stage and artists' dressing room; seating, tables and technical equipment can be booked.
