About this venue

The Kulturzentrum Mainz (KUZ) was founded in 1981 and occupies a listed red-brick building on Dagobertstraße near the Winterhafen and the Rhine, built in 1888 as a garrison laundry. Its programme covers concerts, readings, theatre, themed parties and events for children. The building closed for a major renovation from January 2016 and reopened on 14 December 2018 with full soundproofing and two new stages that can run in parallel: the Werkhalle, a concert hall on the lower floor for up to 1,000 visitors, and the Lehrsaal upstairs, a technically equipped hall with 100 to 200 seats used for theatre, readings, cabaret and comedy. The long-running KUZ-Sommer series, held since 1991, is a world music festival with a focus on Brazilian, Caribbean and Cuban music. Upcoming concerts are listed into late 2026.
