About this venue
Laksevåg kirke stands at Damsgårdsveien 182 in the Laksevåg district of Bergen. It was built in 1874-75 and consecrated on 12 May 1875, a three-aisled wooden hall church in neo-Rococo to a design by Peter Andreas Blix, revised by Theodor August Fromholz; the site was given by Constance Janson, widowed owner of Damsgård manor. Between 1919 and 1935 the nave was extended and the originally freestanding tower drawn into the building with a new entrance porch. The copper spire was a gift from the shipyard workers in 1921.
The church was badly damaged in the Allied bombing of Laksevåg in the autumn of 1944 and restored after the war. Inside are stained glass by Per Vigeland, wall paintings including an unusual fiddle-playing angel, and sculpture by Odd Ystanes and Jacob Helle. The organ dates from 2016, following instruments by Brantzeg (1878), Walcker of Germany (1918) and Vestre orgel- og pianofabrikk on Haramsøy (1970).
The room seats 432 and is used for concerts and stage productions as well as services, with the parish handling its own ticketing through TicketCo.
