Leazes Park
Newcastle's oldest public park, beside St James' Park, used for outdoor concerts, festivals and community events.
About this venue
Leazes Park is Newcastle's oldest public park, laid out in 1873 in the shadow of St James' Park and less than ten minutes' walk from the city centre. It has a boating lake, a bandstand-era layout of restored ornate gateways and terraces, six tennis courts, basketball courts, a large woodland play area, a memorial garden and the Tower Cafe.
The open ground is used as an event space: it hosts the Newcastle Community Green Festival each May, dance and club promotions, and other outdoor concerts and community events. Springbank Pavilion inside the park is separately bookable. Since 28 February 2025 the park has been managed directly by Newcastle City Council, which took its 33 parks and allotments back from the charity Urban Green Newcastle; park bookings go through the council's events team.
