About this venue

Løvenvold Theater opened at Løvenvoldgata 11 in central Ålesund on 1 September 1923. A century on it was renovated and reopened in 2023, bringing cinema and live performance back to the middle of town, and now bills itself as a living house for the whole family. The main hall seats 194, with a further 66 places on a gallery lounge above. The concert stage measures 6 x 4 m and the cinema screen is 8 m across; projection is 2D with 7.1 surround, and the house carries concert sound and a lighting desk for live work. There are two bars, a kiosk with food and drink that can be pre-ordered for evening performances, and seven unisex toilets. The building is universally accessible, with wheelchair spaces and accessible toilets. The programme mixes first-run film — including a senior cinema strand — with theatre, concerts, comedy, documentaries and talks.
