About this venue
The Lyceum Theatre stands on Heath Street in the centre of Crewe. The current building was designed by Albert Winstanley and opened in October 1911, replacing an 1887 theatre on the same site that burned down in 1910. The site was first used as a theatre in 1876, when a former Roman Catholic church was converted. The auditorium has a dress circle, gallery and boxes, with decorative plasterwork on the balcony fronts, the proscenium arch and the ceiling. The front-of-house areas were rebuilt in 1994. The building is Grade II listed.
The theatre is operated by Trafalgar Theatres. Its programme mixes touring and local productions: musicals by amateur operatic societies, stand-up comedy, ballet and dance, tribute and classic-rock concerts, plays, family shows and an annual pantomime. Its spaces can be hired for corporate events, private hire, performances and celebrations through the operator's events team. The box office is on 0343 310 0050.
