Malmö Opera

Malmö Opera is the opera and music-theatre house at Östra Rönneholmsvägen 20 in Malmö, presenting opera, musicals and concerts with its own chorus and orchestra. The main stage, Storan, was completed in 1944 and modelled on the ancient amphitheatre; it is one of Europe's larger stages with a stage area of 600 m², and the auditorium holds up to 1,511, adjustable with walls on ceiling rails down to a smallest auditorium of 407 seats, with a height-adjustable forestage that can serve as orchestra pit, stage extension or part of the auditorium. Verkstan is a black-box stage with a 230 m² floor and room for up to 200 people, used for smaller productions, often for children and young people, and for audience meetings and lectures. Outside performances and rehearsals the house can be hired for conferences, launches and company events: the foyer (a view over the piazza and the city), the restaurant Operagrillen and the flexible Bengt Hall-salen, with a dedicated contact person for each event; the house also serves lunch in Operagrillen.
