About this venue
The Mendelssohn-Haus is the only surviving private home of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809–1847). He died here. The late-classical house of 1844 on Goldschmidtstraße has been restored to its historical design and is run by the Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Stiftung as a museum on his life and work.
Its music salon keeps its original wall decoration and hosts a chamber-music matinée every Sunday at 11am, lasting about an hour; booking ahead is recommended. The house also stages festival programmes such as the Mendelssohn-Festtage each November (2026 includes a "Konzert zur Todesstunde" musical reading on 4 November) and the "Tacheles" series, and is a venue of the Con spirito chamber music festival.
