About this venue
The MEWA ARENA is the football stadium of 1. FSV Mainz 05, built in 2011 on the fields of Bretzenheim near the university to replace the Bruchwegstadion. It opened on 3 July 2011 as the Coface Arena, was called the Opel Arena from 2016 to 2021, and has carried its current name since 2021. It has four steep single-tier stands with open corners and holds 33,305 spectators, including 13,700 standing places; the hospitality area seats about 2,700 VIP guests. Besides Bundesliga matches it serves as an event venue, mainly through its business club of about 2,000 m² overlooking the pitch and a 200 m² sky box; large music events were ruled out at the planning stage because of noise for nearby residents. The stadium is owned by the city's property company GVG and operated by 1. FSV Mainz 05.
