About this venue

The Michaeliskirche (St Michael's Church) closes the northern end of the main north–south axis through Leipzig's inner city, on Nordplatz. Built from 1901 as the main church of the northern suburbs and consecrated in 1904, it has a broad monumental tower 70 m high. The nave seats about 790. It belongs to the Michaelis-Friedens-Kirchgemeinde, together with the Friedenskirche in Gohlis, and is used for services, gatherings and concerts. Most of the parish's choral-symphonic concerts take place here, sung by its oratorio choir, the Friedenskantorei; its autumn 2026 concert, "Französische Romantik" with Fauré and Widor, is on 15 November 2026. In summer the church also shows changing exhibitions.
