About this venue

Musikhuset has operated in the former Sailors' Church (Sjömanskyrkan) at Kyrkogatan 32 since 1987. It is run by the association Föreningen Musikhuset, supported by the study association ABF Gästrikebygden, which organises all cultural events; the restaurant, bar and cafe (Sjömanskyrkan Bord and Bar) is owned by the same association. The programme covers rock tribute nights, blues jams and touring blues acts, metal, stand-up, open stage, 90s nights and after-work dances; many events are ticketed and some have free entry. Spelsalen, the old church hall upstairs with a large rose window and preserved galleries, is the main stage with sound and light (360 audience, 120 in rows of chairs, 85 at tables) but has no lift. The ground-floor Caféet has an intimate stage (3.5 x 4.8 m) for 125 people, 54 of them seated. A dance hall and rehearsal rooms are also available. Rooms can be hired for meetings, events, parties, weddings and annual meetings; contact the venue for prices and booking.
