About this venue
For over 900 years the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas has stood at the centre of Newcastle's spiritual and civic life. Its lantern tower is one of the defining shapes on the city skyline, and its memorials, ledger stones and 19th-century chancel carvings by Ralph Hedley, Robert Beall and J S Westmacott record much of the heritage of the city and the wider region.
A major refurbishment reopened the building as a flexible public space. Alongside worship it runs a programme of concerts and organ recitals, and hires out the nave for large performances and conferences, the chapels and transepts for smaller gatherings, and Cafe 16 in the Cathedral Hall for receptions and meetings.
