About this venue

The Rheingoldhalle is a multipurpose hall on the Rhine riverbank in Mainz, near the Theodor-Heuss-Brücke. Designed by the Mainz architect Heinz Laubach, it was built from 1965 to 1968 on the site of the former Stadthalle and opened on 9 November 1968; together with the city hall and the Hilton hotel it forms a modernist complex. The Danish architects Dissing+Weitling extended it in 2006/07. After a renovation that began in November 2018, a roof fire on 16 May 2019 and a 38-month refurbishment and extension, it reopened in January 2022. Owned by the city and operated by mainzplus GmbH, it offers 9,000 m² of flexible event space and more than 20 meeting rooms on two levels, with direct access to the Hilton Mainz and the city hall car park; all entrances are step-free. The main Kongress-Saal holds 2,144 and the Gutenberg-Saal 1,260. It hosts concerts, carnival (Fastnacht) sessions of the big Mainz carnival clubs, fairs, conferences and stage shows; upcoming dates include musical shows in February and March 2027.
