About this venue
Rockehuset is Halden municipality's youth house for musicians and music lovers, and is regarded as Norway's first publicly run rehearsal facility for rock musicians. It started in 1982 in a former mill manager's house by the Saugbrugs paper mill and moved on 1 November 1995 into the former civil-defence shelter inside Rødsfjellet, where it remains today. The building houses seven rehearsal rooms for hire, a drop-in room with drums, amplifiers and guitars, a recording studio running Pro Tools HD, and a concert hall on the second floor that doubles as a lounge between shows.The stage is equipped with a d&b PA (C7 tops and subs), an Allen & Heath iLive console and a permanent backline of Mesa, ENGL, Marshall, Vox and Ampeg amplification plus a full drum kit. Over the decades the hall has hosted Norwegian rock, punk, metal and hip hop acts as well as local bands, and it is the home base of the annual youth festival Spill og Grill held on the school stadium outside. Rockehuset has released several compilation CDs of resident bands, most recently a 30th-anniversary collection in 2025. The programme is aimed primarily at young people aged 13–18; rehearsal rooms and the studio are rented out by arrangement. Note that there is no mobile coverage inside the mountain.
