About this venue

Rommen Scene is a culture venue at Rommen in Groruddalen, north-east Oslo, run by Oslo municipality's culture agency (Kulturetaten). It consists of a professionally equipped stage with an amphitheatre seating 200 and its own backstage area, plus a separate dance studio, and it hosts everything from musical productions to annual general meetings. The programme mixes family events such as Skattekista with a weekly schedule of dance classes for all ages — parent-and-child sessions from age two and ballet from five — and touring productions; Det Norske Teatret plays here and handles its own ticketing for those shows. The stage is let for events, seminars — there is a large screen and straightforward audio and video playback, with catering and technical staff available — and as a rehearsal and production room for theatre and concerts. The dance studio can be hired any day between 08:00 and 22:00 at 150 kr an hour with a three-hour minimum, by organisations and private individuals, though not for private parties such as birthdays or christenings; it is used for rehearsals, dance classes, showings and group classes such as yoga and pilates. Applications can take up to a fortnight to answer. The dance studio is lent free of charge to voluntary organisations running activities for children and young people under 25, with priority given to cultural activities and to applicants with a connection to Groruddalen. The venue also runs Voldsløkka Scene.
