About this venue

Sankt Petri kirke stands on Nytorget in central Stavanger and forms, with Stavanger domkirke, the parish of Domkirken og St. Petri menighet — a small congregation that, in its own words, solves large tasks for the city, with wide-ranging work in the centre across every age group. The parish is strongly musical: it employs cathedral cantors, a cathedral organist with responsibility for choirs, an organist and carillonneur, a music producer and a culture consultant, and runs a choir school and a girls' choir alongside its other ensembles. St. Petri's organ is described by the parish as a hybrid instrument built to handle many styles and kinds of music — a deliberate contrast to the cathedral's Reil organ, which is pitched towards baroque and early music. The church is set up for universal access: step-free entry through the side door to the right of the main entrance, a ramp along the wall from the nave up into the chancel, step-free access to the basement through the side door towards the Aftenbladet building, an accessible toilet at the back of the church and a hearing loop. The parish office is at Rektor Steens gate 7 in Stavanger, and bookings and enquiries go through it.
