Skånes Dansteater

Skånes Dansteater was founded in 1995 and has been based since 2005 in a 1964 building in Västra hamnen that once belonged to the Kockums shipyard. It is a dance theatre and dance institution that presents its own company, Skånes Dansteaters Kompani, and visiting companies: the autumn 2026 programme has the world premiere of Afterlife by choreographer Heidi Vierthaler alongside guest performances such as Hornfuckers (DansFunk Festival), Avig, Dancing with the Dead and Nabinam (Malmö Dance Week). The main hall, Varvsscenen, has 250 seats in twelve rows, with row 1 at ground level, and the hall can be rearranged for particular productions. Bågscenen, a black box entered from the sea side at Östra Varvsgatan 13d, takes 150 people with no fixed seating. The building also contains rehearsal and workshop studios (Studio Varvet and Studio Bågen), and audience entrances, foyer, auditorium and studios are all on the ground floor without steps. The visiting and postal address is Östra Varvsgatan 13a.
